How Much Does a Bail Bond Cost?

The fee for a bail bond is normally restricted by law and is a certain percentage of the bond amount, often 10% of the bond for a client residing in MS and 15% for clients out of state. On a $1000.00 bond, the typical bail bondsman fee is $100.00 plus any other additional fees.

What Should I Know Before I Contact a Bail Agent?

The first thing a bondsman will need to know is the inmate’s name as well as the location of where the individual is being held. Many times, the person making the call does not know the amount of the bond or the charges. As an agent, I can find that information out for you and give you the best possible advice with regards to getting the inmate released.

How Long Does It Take to Be Released From Jail?

Once a bail agent has been contacted, it usually takes less than an hour for the paperwork to be completed. However, release times vary from jail to jail and state to state. It could take as little as thirty minutes or as long as twenty four hours to be released from jail.

What is Collateral and How Does That Process Work?

In most cases, collateral is not required. However, in some cases, the bail agent may require collateral to secure the release of a defendant. That collateral can take the form of real property like a home or a vehicle and maybe even cash which is held in escrow until the case is completely disposed of in court. Once complete and all terms of the bond have been satisfied, the collateral is returned to the indemnitor (the person agreeing to indemnify or guarantee the bond.)

Do You Get the Bail Money Back If Found Guilty?

No. The money you pay to the bondsman (with the exception of collateral) is not refunded.

If You Bail Someone Out of Jail, Do You Get Your Money Back?

No. A bail bondsman usually charges 10% of the bail amount. In fact, that percentage is the bondsman’s fee. However, collateral is returned once the criminal case is finalized.

What Are My Responsibilities Once I Am Released?

Once you have been released from jail, you must comply with your agreement or you risk the possibility of rearrest. Usually, your responsibilities will include the following:

  • Appearing, on time, to any court dates that are set in your case.
  • Reporting to any requested court officials or law enforcement departments as required in your case.
  • Reporting regularly to the bail bond company while waiting for the court to make a decision in your case. (as required)
  • Meeting any requirements that are set by the courts/law in your case.
  • Refraining from breaking the law or any subsequent behavior which results in further legal action against you during the period prior to the court’s decision.
  • Providing the bail bond company and the courts of any changes in your address, employment, phone number, or your general whereabouts.
  • Maintaining the terms of your agreement with the bail bond company.
What Happens If I Miss My Court Date?

If you miss your scheduled hearing date without obtaining permission from the court, a warrant for your arrest will be issued by the judge and once arrested, held without bond until the next court session.

What Does the Bail Bond Process Look Like?

Arranging for bail is a simple process – do not panic. I understand how stressful the situation can be but I promise, the bail bond procedure is painless. My cell phone is always on and I answer every call – if I do not answer, please leave a message and I will immediately return your call. Once we’ve met and discussed the situation and all relevant information has been obtained, I then begin to work my magic. Once the bond is posted at the jail, the jailers go through the process of releasing the defendant.

What Forms of Payment Do You Accept?

Big D’s Bailbonds proudly accepts: VISA, MasterCard, American Express, Discover Card, Cash, Check and Money Orders.
