The fee for a bail bond is normally restricted by law and is a certain percentage of the bond amount, often 10% of the bond for a client residing in MS and 15% for clients out of state. On a $1000.00 bond, the typical bail bondsman fee is $100.00 plus any other additional fees.
The first thing a bondsman will need to know is the inmate’s name as well as the location of where the individual is being held. Many times, the person making the call does not know the amount of the bond or the charges. As an agent, I can find that information out for you and give you the best possible advice with regards to getting the inmate released.
Once a bail agent has been contacted, it usually takes less than an hour for the paperwork to be completed. However, release times vary from jail to jail and state to state. It could take as little as thirty minutes or as long as twenty four hours to be released from jail.
In most cases, collateral is not required. However, in some cases, the bail agent may require collateral to secure the release of a defendant. That collateral can take the form of real property like a home or a vehicle and maybe even cash which is held in escrow until the case is completely disposed of in court. Once complete and all terms of the bond have been satisfied, the collateral is returned to the indemnitor (the person agreeing to indemnify or guarantee the bond.)
No. The money you pay to the bondsman (with the exception of collateral) is not refunded.
No. A bail bondsman usually charges 10% of the bail amount. In fact, that percentage is the bondsman’s fee. However, collateral is returned once the criminal case is finalized.
Once you have been released from jail, you must comply with your agreement or you risk the possibility of rearrest. Usually, your responsibilities will include the following:
If you miss your scheduled hearing date without obtaining permission from the court, a warrant for your arrest will be issued by the judge and once arrested, held without bond until the next court session.
Arranging for bail is a simple process – do not panic. I understand how stressful the situation can be but I promise, the bail bond procedure is painless. My cell phone is always on and I answer every call – if I do not answer, please leave a message and I will immediately return your call. Once we’ve met and discussed the situation and all relevant information has been obtained, I then begin to work my magic. Once the bond is posted at the jail, the jailers go through the process of releasing the defendant.
